They say life is an occasion to dress up for. I’m not a huge fashion advocate nor do I follow the idea of dressing up as a form of self-expression but I strongly believe and approve of being presentable and dressing right for an occasion.
Have you ever been to a party sticking out like a sore thumb because you didn’t know that the event called for a semi-formal attire and you were strutting your way wearing your favorite pair of jeans and a sequined shirt? It happens to the best of us, don’t worry. But to avoid instances like that, I’ll help you get ready for dressing up for different occasions.
Here comes the bride, all dressed in white. How about you? What will you be wearing to a wedding?
Being invited to witness a couple’s union is exciting, but it’s a bit tricky in the dressing up department. Now, to help you be sure of what to wear, check the wedding invitation!
If it’s a day wedding, a knee length dress is a safe bet. If it’s an evening affair and calls for something formal, a floor length dress is apt. Avoid wearing something that is overly beaded or has lots of sequins. Black used to be a big no-no but it’s now slowly being embraced by many brides and event planners, just be sure to ask if it’s alright to don your LBD.
Oh, you’re having a picnic at the park? That’s lovely.
There’s no reason for you to not look lovely, too. If you’re feeling a bit girly, put on a sundress of your favorite color. Pair it with ballet flats, sandals, or wedges. Now if you want to be able to prop up yourself on the grass without minding if people are playing peekaboo, put on a pair of shorts that cover you enough, but is comfortable enough for you to move in as well. Bring a sweater, too, just in case you stay till it gets dark and gets a wee chilly.
You’re going on a date night and you’re wearing what?
With all that’s going on in your career and daily lives, it’s always a good idea to spend some quality time with your other half. And while I don’t support those who dress to impress (men specifically), it’s always a nice idea to surprise your partner once in a while.
Now, we don’t want to look like we’re trying hard. Go for a simple, classic look. Put on your best little white dress and jazz the outfit up with your favorite jewelry. Simplicity is still the best policy (when it comes to dressing up for any occasion).
It’s the perfect way to cap off a tiring week: bonding with the besties!
You’re off to see friends. You’ve known each other for so long, they already know your style. Why not surprise them this time and try something new? Put your jeans to rest and unearth that dress you’ve been meaning to wear for the longest time.
You don’t treat a day off on your own as an occasion? Why, you definitely should!
Being surrounded by people who are dear to you and being able to work on something that inspires and motivates you each day is a wonderful gift. But having that and getting time on your own once in a while is what you can call a full life.
Celebrate your much-deserved moments of solitude by spending it any way you want! And dress up any way you want, too!
Put on a shirt with a silly print and pair it with a fun skirt. Kick off those heels and sport your favorite sneakers. Leave the leather bag at home and sling a canvas bag on your shoulder. Go sporty or rock -- the only rule is: do. what. you. want.
Now that you know how to dress up for different occasions, better cross out the dates on your calendar and start planning!
