These are three fool-proof ways I take my neutral (read: 5-minute) everyday look to something more exciting (read: not neutral, will look great for a night out).
Granted, I don't really get a lot of opportunities to transition my looks from something people would call day-time appropriate to a night-time glam look. But I figured it might help some of you who might need to be in a rush for an unplanned date or night out with friends. Plus, I also use these techniques for days when I want to look a bit more put-together than usual.
Use Black EyeshadowApart from that time I tried to justify my purchase by creating 5 looks with 1 palette, I usually do simple eye makeup. I use a warm color for my socket line and a shimmery gold color -- I usually grab for my Shiseido Hydro-Powder -- on the lid.
On the rare days when I want to take things up a notch, I put some black eyeshadow on the outer v. I blend some of the color on my crease, too, just for a hint of drama. This technique makes for a good, light smoky eye.
Put Heavy EyelinerAmy Winehouse didn't care whether it was night or day when she rocked her signature eyeliner look. For me, though, a strong bold liner is something I can only pull off at nighttime. And not just because I haven't perfected the way to get crisp, even lines on both eyes yet but also because eyeliner, to me, makes any look jazzed up. You can even have no eye makeup and just eyeliner and still look polished.
Dark or bold-colored eyeliner on the waterline is also great for when you want your look to be more on the dramatic side.
Swipe On Some Bold LipstickJust like an eyeliner, a bold lipstick can elevate a look from just-woke-up to ready-to-conquer-the-world. Red is always the right pick, in my opinion, but there are more adventurous options. Swipe on on a coral, a deep plum, a neon pink or a blue! A bold lip will always do the trick.
Or you can do all three at the same time. Just make sure to make sure every thing's balanced. (See photo below.)
