We’re all no strangers to the idea of breaking away from the norm. People — and now, blogs — are often asked to be confined into a niche. Are you a beauty blogger? Oh, so you’re a finance blogger. Well, we don’t believe in that here.
Welcome to Mad Cherry! This site started as an extension of my perpetually on-hiatus online store. From a beauty blog, it has now turned into this. But what is this? In a nutshell, Mad Cherry is a space for the curious individual.
What can you expect from this site?
We help millennials navigate through life in a more mindful and curious way through honest, informative and informed, and entertaining stories about beauty, travel, career and living, so they can step out and live out with more inspiration and zest for life.
Who’s behind this site?
I’m Jorj, and when I’m not cataloguing my musings and sharing things I find amusing here, I’m busy trying to read the whole Internet. I also work as a lifestyle editor for a Singapore-headquartered women’s website. And I moonlight as a social media manager for a local food business.
You’d think I’d be sick of words after office hours — well, I don’t exactly go to the office. I work at home! — but I’m not. I still have lots of story ideas, and I don’t want them to remain in my head. (Also, I may or may not have an obsession with words and writing things down.) I’ve been creating content for the web since 2009. I’ve written about a lot of things, but this is where I write about things that I’m genuinely curious about.
This blog remains my creative outlet, but from time to time you’d see a post from my husband, Youghp, who is one of the best guitarists you’ll ever get to listen to (he just so happens to be good with words, too).
Why Mad Cherry?
One day my husband and I were watching TV. The woman from the local channel which shows U.S. programs via satellite was talking about “match airing,” meaning the shows would air here the same time it goes live in the states. Puzzled, my husband asked, “Babe, what’s mad cherry?”
The misheard phrase became an inside joke (that you now know about). I decided to use it because it had a nice ring to it. Plus, I liked the idea of being a mad cherry. To me, the phrase depicts a person with fiery passion.
It also reminds me of this quote:
