Full disclosure: The last time I put makeup on was a week ago and I did so because I had to. I was off to an event and I had to look at least presentable. I haven’t had the urge to play with makeup. I feel like I’ve said that so many times now, I’m not even sure if I should be comfortable calling myself a beauty enthusiast. But in my attempt to #MakeMore this year, I’m looking at lots of inspiration. And since Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, I thought, “Hey, why not?” So here are some pretty Valentine’s Day makeup looks you can wear even after the celebration and some of the products you can use to recreate them.
Pop of pink
I’ve been fascinated by the inner eye corner pop of color trend for some time now. It’s so minimalist in theory but the effect is very maximalist, especially when you pick a color like neon pink. To achieve it, a basic base eyeshadow look is what you need. Choose a highlight color you’re comfortable with and you’re good to go. In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, I’d say go for pink but a metallic purple would look great, too, especially for brown-eyed girls.
Clean and lined
Raise your hand if you, too, have been obsessed with Katie Jane Hughes lately. I’ve been really liking the looks she’s been posting on her Instagram account. This one, in particular, was so simple but stunning. She mentioned that she used the Urban Decay pencil for the pink line on her lids in the shade alkaline, but any pink eyeliner (or maybe even cream shadow) would do.
Sweet and sultry
If you’re feeling a little sultry, a smokey eye is your best bet. But don’t do just any kind of smokey eye; go pink for the occasion. Melissa Alatorre achieved the look in the photo using the Urban Decay Naked Cherry palette but I think you can also get the look by using any basic eyeshadow palette that has browns and pinks. Keep your lips on the neutral side to balance out the sultriness of the eye look.
A modern take on a classic
You can never go wrong with a classic red lip. But just for fun (and to shake things up) go for one that has a metallic sheen to it. Let your lips stand out by keeping the eye look basic. Or if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, pair it with a warm smokey eye look.
This look makes you look like you’re constantly blushing, which may be a good thing when you wear it on a date. Go for a coral-toned blush and sweep a bit onto your eyelids for a cohesive summer-ready look. For a fresh take, opt for a pink that suits your skin tone.
