A Little Burgundy (Makeup) Never Hurt Anybody

Sharing is caring!

While I can’t say I enjoy burgundy in the form of wine (I don’t really drink), I definitely do appreciate the colour when it comes to makeup. Classic reds and oranges are great, but there’s just something about a vampy red, don’t you think? So I used it on my simple look today.

When I say simple, I mean gosh darn simple. I wanted to go for a no-makeup makeup look at first but figured I should just pursue my fruit-inspired (personal) makeup challenge. So here’s one inspired by plums. It’s incredibly easy to do, I swear. Even my daughter can do this.

The tools of the trade for a burgundy makeup look

I opted not to use foundation (although I do have tinted sunscreen on). I just put the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in the shade Medium under my eyes, on the sides of my nose and on some blemishes. I then set those areas with the Hourglass Cosmetics Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light. To give my face a bit of color, I applied the Etude House Colorful Drawing Watercolor Blusher in Lilac Lavender on my cheeks.

Since I wasn’t really planning on doing an elaborate makeup look, I just put a couple of swipes of the light brown color in the Smashbox Cosmetics Cover Shot Eye Palette in Matte. For my lashes, I used the Maybelline Hyper Curl again because I don’t open two mascara tubes at the same time! For the eyebrows, I’m trying out the Maybelline Define and Blend Brow Pen in Natural Brown.

And for the final and most important part of this burgundy makeup look — the lips! — I swiped on the Ofra Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick in Hypno. It’s a bit darker on others, but on me it’s just the perfect shade of burgundy.

What’s your favorite fruit? I’d love to get some inspiration for my next look!
